CAS Butterfly Card

I saw this card by Karolyn Loncon on Pinterest and thought it would make for a quick and easy card.  I love the colors Karolyn used, along with the gold foil butterfly, so the only thing I changed was the greeting.

Items used:  Frantic Stamper Monarch Butterfly, Frantic Stamper Stitched Petal Squares, Sue Wilson Stitched Flags

Peachy Thank You

I can never have enough Thank You cards.  Today's card was made using paper from the Subtle Plaid pad by My Favorite Things.

I cut the Cosmos flowers out of the same paper as the background and layered them with a piece of foam tape for dimension.  I've had this Cosmos punch by Martha Stewart for years but never used it until recently.  It makes such pretty and easy flowers.

I'm entering this card in the following challenges:

Products Used:  My Favorite Things Subtle Plaid 6x6 Paper pack, Martha Stewart Cosmos Punch, Penny Black Sentiment Collection, Sue Wilson Mosaic Leaves, Simon Says Stamp Apricot ink,  Lawn Fawn Small Cross Stitched Rectangle Stackables, enamel dots from Michaels

Simon Says Stamp: Get in Shape

Monday's challenge at Simon Says Stamp is "Get in Shape".  You can create something 3D or with 3D elements or use a fitness theme.  I chose to make my embellishments 3D which is something I rarely ever do for shipping reasons.

I used the following products:  Tutti Designs Hugs, Altenew Painted Flowers, Peacock Feathers Distress ink, Shabby Shutters Distress ink, ribbon, button and sequins from my stash

Impression Obsession Challenge: Summer Colors

With the camera flash mimicking the shine of the sun (above)

Without the flash, giving it more of a night time feel (above)

The current challenge at Impression Obsession Stamps is to use Summer Colors.  I knew right away that I wanted to use the IO Stamps Sunburst Background die.  I cut the die with orangish foiled cardstock and layered it on top of a background that I made using distress inks and glossy photo paper:

I then cut a sandy hill using the IO Stamps Hill Landscape Layers and adhered some Shore Birds in black since the sun is setting and they would be dark IRL.

Products Used:  Impression Obsession Stamps Sunburst Background, IO Stamps Hill Landscape Layers,  IO Stamps Shore Birds

Plaid Flowers

The Wednesday Challenge at Simon Says Stamp is Use Plaid.

I just got this plaid paper from Lawn Fawn and had been wanting to make some flowers with it so today's challenge was perfect.

Items Used:  Lawn Fawn Perfectly Plaid Rainbow paper, Doodlebug (purple) paper, Penny Black Sentiment Collection stamp set,  Impression Obsession Puppy set, Martha Stewart Cosmos punch, MS Frond punch, Frantic Stamper Stitched Ovals,  enamel dots from JoAnn Fabric

Green and Teal Hugs Tag

This is one of those projects that came together with leftover parts that never made it on other cards.  I swiped a tag through some watered down distress inks, dried it then painted on some Martha Stewart glitter paint through a stencil I made using a sunburst die.

After the paint dried,  I distressed around the edges of the tag with sand paper and applied some more distress inks.  If you use sandpaper on a card and then apply distress inks, the ink shows a lot more as it soaks into the exposed layer of cardstock.

Products Used:  Frantic Stamper Sunburst Card Panel (as a stencil), FS Pinprick Circles, Technique Tuesday Say it Hugs, Sue Wilson Mosaic Leaves, Cheery Lynn Shasta Daisy, variety of green and teal distress inks, Martha Stewart Teal glitter paint, various ribbons

Golden Butterflies

The Monday challenge at Simon Says Stamp is "Distress It".  I used Antique Linen distress inks around the edge of my card front and also used Shaded Lilac distress ink on the scalloped dotted oval.

After I swiped the oval through the watered down distress inks on my craft sheet, I let it dry then rubbed on some gold gilding wax.

The butterflies were made using a combination of the large butterfly and small butterfly that come in the same set.  I cut the small butterflies on some lilac glitter paper and then cut the larger butterfly with gold paper.  I paper pieced the gold bits from the large butterfly into the wings of the smaller butterfly.

Products Used:  Diemond Dies Butterflies, Elizabeth Craft Designs Scallop Dotted Oval, Paper Studio Butterflies EF, distress inks, sequins, gold gilding wax

Patriotic Shooting Stars

I made this card for my 3 yr old nephew for the holidays but am late posting it.

To make the card, I simply used a large bristle paint brush that was left over from my preschool teaching days which simply means it had no shape left to it at all.  I added some Barn Door and Faded Jeans Distress Inks to my craft sheet and spritzed on some water then mixed the water with the ink using my brush.  When the brush was very saturated, I swiped it once across my watercolor paper.

Products used:  the star from Impression Obsession All in one Frames Circles, Impression Obsession Birthday Edge Toppers

Fireworks with Stars

To make the fireworks, I used a large round paintbrush that was very old and "out of shape" and pounced the brush into my Barn Door distress ink pad then pounced it onto the watercolor paper several times.

The stars are from the Impression Obsession All in One Frames -- Circles die.  I colored them with Faded Jeans distress ink and adhered with foam dots.  The word "celebration" is also from Impression Obsession and is part of the Birthday Top Edgers set.

A Card for My SIL

I have a sister-in-law with a birthday a day before the 4th of July.  I hope she doesn't mind my using patriotic colors on her card.  It's kind of like wrapping a birthday present for a December birthday using Christmas wrapping paper..........but I think she will be okay with it.

Anyways, I used the following products to make the card:  Cheery Lynn Designs Tea Rose Medium, Tutti Designs Happy Word Set and Birthday Word Set, and Impression Obsession Rectangle 6-in-1 Frames

Memory Box Fancy Blossoms Thank You

I had this black cut out of the Sue Wilson Atlantic Ocean Collection -- Bermuda die lying on my desk for ages so I thought it was finally time to use it.

I adhered the die cut to a black card base then used a white gel pen to put dots around the edge.  After I did that, I realized it wasn't a very symmetrical die cut.  I used just the outermost frame in this set:

I then cut some of the Memory Box Fancy Blossoms in bright colors to get a tropical look to the flowers and also have them stand out against the black background.

After the flowers were assembled, I used two different Martha Stewart punches for the leaves:  the Frond punch (cut off some leaves) and the Stamp and Punch Flower (also cut off some leaves).

The final step was to add the Sue Wilson Scripted Thank You which I cut out in white and added some yellow enamel dots to the centers of the flowers.

Products used:  Memory Box Fancy Blossoms, Sue Wilson Atlantic Ocean Collection --  Bermuda, Sue Wilson Scripted Thank You, Martha Stewart Frond punch, MS Stamp and Punch Flower.

Black and Brown Daisy

This month's challenge at Memory Box is Noteworthy Neutrals where you have to use neutral colors (cream, white, black, brown or grey) on your project.   I'm entering this card in their challenge.

I started off by die cutting the Frantic Stamper Tropical Leaves Card Panel with white cardstock for my background.  I then layered that on top of a cross stitched rectangle by Lawn Fawn, also on white cardstock.

I cut the daisy on white cardstock as well but then painted on some Cookies and Cream Glitter Glam turning it brown.  The stamp is a Memory Box Open Studio set called Love Grows.  I cut the 3 tiny heart stamps (which were arranged differently in the set) so they would all be in one line after the words "for you".  I cut the Memory Box Precious Hearts three times so I could have two extra hearts to dangle from the stitched flag.

Products used:  Memory Box Precious Hearts, Memory Box Open Studio Love Grows Clear Stamp Set, Sue Wilson Delicate Daisies Complete Petals, Tattered Angels Cookies and Cream Glitter Glam, Cheery Lynn Floral Bouquet (leaves), Frantic Stamper Tropical Leaves Card Panel, Lawn Fawn Cross-Stitched Rectangles, Sue Wilson Stitched Flags.

Timeless Tulips

Although I like how this card turned out, I have to honestly say it was not easy using the layered stamps for the flowers.  Each flower has three layers, thus three different colors of ink are needed.   More recent layered floral stamps I've used have only two colored layers and one black outline layer.  I found those much easier to line up.

Distress inks, as you may know, do not stamp vividly on clear stamps unless you use a MISTI (which I did) and keep applying coat after coat.

Products used:  Sunny Studio Timeless Tulips clear stamp set and die set, Ellen Hutson Warm Fuzzies (sentiment), Sue Wilson Stitched Flags, Frantic Stamper Chevron Card Panel, Stampin' Up Rose Red and Regal Rose inks, Picked Raspberries DI, Shabby Shutters DI, and Peeled Paint Distress Ink.

Blue and Cream Sunflower Card

I'm still trying to use up some pattern paper I have but find I am color challenged when it comes to using paper with any design on it.

I used the Sue Wilson Noble Dies Ornate Pierced Design for the card base, Cheery Lynn Sunflower (cut 3 times on dsp), and the Sue Wilson Faux Quilled Leaves.

I left a lot of room for a sentiment once I figure out how this card will be used.

Red White and Blue Thanks Star Wreath

The current challenge at Impression Obsession is to use stars so I used the star that comes with the All in One Frames -- Circles set, cut several with glitter paper and adhered them to the Leafy Wreath.  Then I cut the word Thanks three times and layered them in a red, white and blue pattern for more dimension and to give the card an even more patriotic look.

Products used:  Woodgrain pattern paper from Michaels, Impression Obsession All in One Frames -- Circles, IO Thanks, IO Leafy Wreath

Impression Obsession Stars Challenge

The current challenge at Impression Obsession is Stars.  I do not own any IO stamps with stars on them so I had to use the only IO die I have that has a star with it.   For my card I used the center star that cuts out when using the All in One Frames -- Circles die:

I colored the stars with Faded Jeans and Barn Door distress inks and dripped on some ink splats as well.  The word "celebrate" is from the Birthday Top Edgers.

To give the card a little sparkle, I dabbed some sparkle texture paste to the stars.

You have until July 4th to join along.  Hope to see your creations there.

Embossing Vellum While in your Dies

When I saw the Wednesday Challenge at Simon Says Stamp was Embossing, it gave me the perfect opportunity to finally use some vellum with my Sue Wilson dies.  I had been wanting to use the vellum and emboss it with a stylus while the vellum was still in the die, leaving these beautiful white lines.  With all the hand embossing that I was doing, my hands were a little tired, but I wish I had put a more intricate frame around the card such as one of Sue Wilson's Ornate Pierced Rectangles or Squares.

I used the following products:  Sue Wilson Striped Nasturtiums, SW Exquisite Poppy, SW Perfect Peony Complete Petals, SW Camilla Complete Petals, SW Faux Quilled Blooms, Cuttlebug EF, Vellum from Hobby Lobby

I'd also like to enter this card in the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge:  Touchy Feely

Guest Designing at Ellen Hutson

I was chosen to fill a guest spot on the Ellen Hutson Design Team for June's Pin-Sights Challenge

The Essentials by Ellen Pin-Sights challenge is a monthly inspirational challenge based on a Pinterest Inspired photo that is located on the CLASSroom blog. A random challenge participant will receive a $50 gift certificate to the Ellen Hutson store.  To be eligible, you MUST use Essentials by Ellen products and the Pin-Sights Challenge Board as inspiration.

I was thankful they chose me for June's challenge;  I love these colors and could easily make a floral card.  Here's my card based on this challenge board:

This is a Double Dutch fold card.

The heart is part of the Essentials by Ellen Folk Heart die set.  I cut the Brushstroke Hello die into the top yellow layer then filled in the center of the "e" and "o" with the leftover bits.   I stamped some solid flowers from the Essentials by Ellen Bold Blooms.  My Misti came in handy here because I had to stamp the solid blooms about 3 times with Distress Inks in order to get the dark color I wanted.  I used Picked Raspberry, Spiced Marmalade, Shabby Shutters, Spun  Sugar and Squeezed Lemonade.

When you lift the top flap with the heart on it, inside there are two side panels which I decorated with the solid floral stamps and two larger panels:

I decorated the two bigger panels inside the card with the spiral looking rose stamps which are also part of the Essentials by Ellen Bold Blooms.  After stamping them with my Misti and various Distress Inks, I manually cut the images out.    The stamp "I Love You" is from the Essentials by Ellen Amazing Women set.

The back of the card looks like this:

I used a different stamp from the Amazing Women set on the back.  It says "You are beautiful inside and out".    There is a tutorial on Splitcoast Stampers on how to make this card.

Good luck with the challenge.  I can't wait to see all the entries.   Thank You Ellen Hutson for allowing me this opportunity to guest design for you.

Simon Says Stamp: Emboss It

Today's challenge at Simon Says Stamp is "Emboss It".  You can dry emboss, heat emboss, use a stylus to emboss, etc.  I used two different methods on my card.  The background paper is gold foil embossed and the flower center and word "hugs" are both embossed with a stylus while the gold foil cardstock was still in the die.  This gave the die cuts a little more dimension.

To make the daisy stand out more, I filled in a few of the chevron strips to make a solid background in that area and did the same under the word "hugs".

I used the following products:  Cheery Lynn Chevron A2 Frame, Cheery Lynn Shasta Daisy, Cheery Lynn Floral Bouquet (leaves), Tutti Designs Hugs, Sue Wilson Stitched Lattice Frames, Sue Wilson Exquisite Poppy (floral center)

RWB Card for Flag Day

This week's CAS Challenge at Splitcoast Stampers is to use the colors of your country's flag on your project... thus the red, white and blue on my card for the United States of America.

I used the following products:  Die'Sire Bordeaux corner die, Sue Wilson Delicate Daisies Complete Petals, Dee's Distinctively Thank You, EK Success Mini Butterfly punch, Martha Stewart Frond punch, Barn Door distress ink

I'm also entering this card in the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge:  Touchy Feely (adding texture to a card -- as in the texture of the daisy leaves and center)

Blushing Bouquet

Monday's Challenge at Simon Says Stamp is Touchy Feely where they want you to have texture on your project.  I combined the embossed brick wall on the background with the embossing on the flowers and their raised enamel dot centers.

Black and White Thank You Card Tutorial

To make these cards, I used the Die'Sire Bordeaux corner and the Frantic Stamper Thanks card band.

I started off by placing the Bordeaux corner die on a piece of cardstock measuring 4 3/4 x 6 1/4 for this 5 x 6.5" card.  Two of the edges on the die that form the right angle have cut lines on them so they will detach from your paper but the diagonal line will not detach.  You would have to manually cut it in order to get a triangle.  I wanted to keep it attached for this card so I made sure the two cut lines were sticking out beyond my piece of paper when running it through the machine.

Below is how the card looks when cutting just the two Bordeaux corners and leaving them attached to the paper:

Next I placed the Thanks card band in the middle of the paper and ran it through the machine, being careful to center it both vertically and horizontally on the diagonal.

The "Thanks" also stays attached to the card.  You just manually cut along the top and bottom to remove the two side pieces from the card:

Now it's ready to mount onto the card base.  Add a few flowers and the card is done.

Products Used:  Die'Sire Bordeaux corner die, Frantic Stamper Thanks Card Band, MFT Die-Namics Flower and Leaf Trio (retired)

Sweet Cherries

One of our neighbors just had a baby and they walked all the way over to our house to bring us some cherries they had just picked on a family outing.  It was nice to be able to talk to them since we can't really talk through the fence with the dogs barking.

To thank them for bringing us such an unexpected gift and to walk all the way over with a newborn baby, I thought I'd make a card for the 6 yr old daughter, Ava, who is the one who delivered the cherries with her mother and new brother.

I used the following products on the card:  Frantic Stamper Cherries, FS Sweet word die, FS Pinprick Circles, FS Accessory Words 1 and 3

I'm entering this card in the Your Next Stamp Sketch and  Color Challenge #65 where I used this sketch as inspiration:

and this sketch for the colors, but I only ended up using two of the colors, not 3 as required:
