Stampin' Up Beautiful Day Elegance

I've had this background paper forever, it seems, but never had the perfect opportunity to use it.  I tried to match the colors of the butterfly to those on the paper for today's card.

Stampin' Up Beautiful Day in Red

Yes, I will admit, I'm addicted to this Stampin' Up Beautiful Day butterfly stamp.  I'm trying to use a variety colors of embossing powders to see how it looks different ways.  Today I used some red glitter embossing powder and colored it in with watercolor pencils and some red Stickles.

Stampin' Up Beautiful Day Sunny Colors

I've been using the Stampin' Up Beautiful Day stamp set a lot these past weeks.  Today I wanted to make a brighter card for a summer birthday.

I heat embossed the stamp with silver embossing powder then colored it in with gel pens.  The background was embossed with three different embossing folders for a multi-textural look.

Products used:  Stampin' Up Beautiful Day, Nellie's Choice Swirls embossing folder, SU Square Lattice embossing folder, Cuttlebug Herringbone embossing folder, Penny Black Love is Growing die, silver embossing powder, gel pens

The other butterfly cards can be seen on my Pinterest board here.

I'm entering this in the Simon Says Stamp Add Some Texture challenge (three embossing folders were used).

Monarch Butterfly

Wednesday's challenge at Simon Says Stamp is Add Some Texture.  I used the Taylored Expressions brick embossing folder to add texture to the background.

To make the card, I cut the top black panel in the size I wanted then cut the butterfly into it.  This left the solid butterfly opening.  I then used the butterfly that was cut out and adhered it to the center of the butterfly window.

Stampin' Up Beautiful Day in Peach

In my previous post I showed a card with the same butterfly stamp but all in purple.  These cards were inspired by the butterfly card made by Annette Elliott.

The Irish myth about the butterfly is that is represents brightness and lightning of the Gods.  I chose to emboss the butterfly with gold embossing powder to make it resemble the gold in fire and lightning.

I'm entering this card in two Simon Says Stamp challenges:

Products used:  Stampin' Up Beautiful Day, We R Memory Keepers Woven embossing folder, gold embossing powder, watercolor pencils, Sue Wilson Stitched Flags, designer paper from my stash

Butterfly Greek Mythology

Monday's challenge at Simon Says Stamp is to create a card based on mythology.   The Greeks believed that a new human sole was born each time an adult butterfly emerged from its cocoon.   Wednesday's  challenge is to add texture to the card (the strips of black paper with glittered dots and manually cutting the butterflies and adding them with 3D foam).

Products used:  Hero Arts Traditional Butterfly, distress markers, Impression Obsession French Text background (stamped both vertically and horizontally), Rubbernecker Stamp

Stampin' Up Beautiful Day Purple

Simon Says Stamp's Monday challenge is Mythology:  Inspired by a Story.  My butterfly card was inspired by the meaning of the butterfly in Irish mythology which is "brightness or lightning of the Gods".  In the Irish myth Tochmarc Etain, they talk of a "purple fly" which is later translated to mean a butterfly.

Happy Birthday Simon Says Stamp

This is my last entry in the Simon Says Stamp Happy Birthday challenge.

I used the Hero Arts Traditional Butterfly, stamped it with VersaFine Onyx ink, manually cut them out and filled in some white gel pen on the dots around the edge of the wings.

The background was stamped using the Impression Obsession French Text stamp and Hero Arts Soft Granite Shadow Ink.

Products used:  Hero Arts Traditional Butterfly, Impression Obsession French Text, Tutti Designs Small Happy Birthday, Hero Arts Soft Granite Shadow Ink, VersaFine Onyx Ink, tiny gems, white gel pen

Impression Obsession Butterfly 2

Do you ever have a die that you wish was also a stamp or vice-versa?  I think this butterfly die would make a great stamp.  I'd love to be able to heat emboss it with some powder and watercolor all the tiny areas in.

To make the card, I blended on some distress inks then stamped the French Text background stamp in more distress ink.

Products Used:  Impression Obsession Butterfly 2, Impression Obsession French Text background stamp, Distress Inks:  Tumbled Glass, Peeled Paint, Wild Honey, Sue Wilson Stitched Flags, birthday stamp unknown

Purple and Orange

There are two challenges going on right now at Simon Says Stamp:

Monday's challenge:  A Trio of Something

Wednesday's challenge:  Happy Birthday

To make the butterflies, I stamped them first on white paper using VersaFine Black Onyx ink.  Then I stamped a Spiced Marmalade ink pad directly on my non-stick craft mat and spritzed it with some water.  Next, I swiped the butterflies through the wet ink then manually cut them out.

I decided to use the orange paper on the card since this will be a birthday card for my sister who has a birthday in the Fall.

Products used:  Lawn Fawn Perfectly Plaid Fall paper pack, Impression Obsession French Text background stamp, Hero Arts Traditional Butterfly, Sue Wilson Stitched Flags, Distress inks.

It's hard to believe Simon Says Stamp is celebrating their 9th birthday already.
